Birutė Stulgaitė

Birutė Stulgaitė was born on August 8, 1952, in Dryžiai, Šilalės district. From 1972 to 1977, she studied as a metal art specialist at the Estonian State Art Institute in Tallinn. After her studies, she worked at the Vilnius Art Combine from 1971 to 1972 and again from 1977 to 1987.

Since 1981, Birutė has been a member of the Lithuanian Artists' Union. She has received several prestigious scholarships, including State scholarships (1998–1999, 2004–2005, 2012), the Soros Center for Contemporary Art scholarship (1997), and the Swedish Institute scholarship for a residency in Gothenburg, Sweden (1993). In 1981, she was awarded a bronze medal at the International Jablonec Jewelry Exhibition in Czechoslovakia. In 2012, she received the Lithuanian Government's Culture and Art Prize.

Birutė Stulgaitė is one of Lithuania's most renowned jewelers, creating jewelry and abstract small-scale metal plastic objects from silver, copper, steel, and iron. She often combines amber and metal enamel to achieve pure, minimalist, and graceful forms. Her works are characterized by the plasticity and natural beauty of the materials, conveying conceptual ideas through simple yet refined compositions.

Birutė's works have been exhibited in numerous solo and group exhibitions in Lithuania and abroad, including the international Metal Art Biennale "Metalofonas" in Vilnius. Her work is appreciated both nationally and internationally.
